Scribing

Scribing is a blanket term to describe the reproduction of period documents.

As I’m sure you can imagine, producing a copy of a charter, an Old English colloquy or an heroic poem is a fairly complicated business. I’ve broken the subject down into a number of areas, in order to provide information in a readily digestible format, which should give you an idea of what I have done in the past, and might be able to do for you. These can be found under the links to the right.

“Insular Minuscule” and “Other Scripts” tell you about the different styles of writing I can offer.

“Pen and Ink” summarises what you need to know about the delivery system that puts the words on the page.

“Vellum and Parchment” contains information about the kinds of “paper” that mediæval documents were written on, and their relative merits.

“Ideas for Documents” is just what it says!

“Bookmarks and Souvenirs” details some affordable items that would make ideal gifts, and at a show can be made for you before your very eyes.
